Nanooks Welcome Lions for Weekend Matchup

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team welcomes the Lindenwood Lions on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23-24. The Lions return to the Carlson Center for the first time since the 2022-23 season.

Series Vs. Lindenwood

  • Alaska and Lindenwood's all-time series dates back to 2022-23, LU's first season as an NCAA Division I hockey team. 
  • The Lions traveled to Fairbanks for the season finale on March 3-4, 2023. Alaska swept them and finished the year 22-10-2.
  • The Nanooks have outscored LU 16-7 through the first four games and average four goals per game against them. 

Playing Host

  • The Nanooks may not play Lindenwood in Missouri later this season, but they will play in the Centene Ice Center for the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Cup March 5-7.
  • Lindenwood was selected to host the first postseason setting between the five Independent NCAA Division I teams. Rankings will be based on NPI at the end of the regular season. 
  • Alaska, Alaska Anchorage, Lindenwood, Long Island University and Stonehill make up the current Independent teams. 

Last Eight Games

  • Peyton Platter and Rylen Roersma have surged in the last eight games for the Nanooks. 
  • In that span, Roersma has seven points on four goals and three assists while Platter has two goals and four assists for six points in that span.

  • Michael Citara leads the Nanooks with 19 points through 21 games (.904 pts/gp). He also leads with nine goals and is tied with 10 assists.

Stat Leaders

  • Four Nanooks are now in double-digit points this season through 21 games. 
  • Michael Citara remains at the top of the board with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists. 
  • Peyton Platter is up to 15 points with five goals and 10 assists. His 10 assists matches Citara for a team-high total. 
  • Rylen Roersma and Chase Dafoe cracked into double-digits over the weekend as Roersma now has 11 points on six goals and five assists. That total leads all rookies in the Blue and Gold.
  • Dafoe now has 10 points on six goals and four assists. 
  • Nathan Rickey has nine points to lead the blue-line. He has scored two goals and seven assists. 

Possible Richter Watch

  • Despite not making the initial watch list, Lassi Lehti continues to prove that he is one of the most reliable goalies in the nation.
  • The Espoo, Finland native has made 403 saves this year (.922) and maintains a 2.46 GAA through 14 games this year. 
  • Over the course of his career, Lehti is 16-11-4-3 in net with a 2.2 GAA and .923 save percentage. 

Smooth Skating

  • Jhett Larson has a three-game scoring streak since game two at Cornell and since Dec. 13 at Union, he has five points in seven games. 
  • Peyton Platter had a five-game scoring streak until game two against UAA. From 1/2/26 to 1/16/26 he tallied six points in five games. 
  • Michael Citara also lost a point streak in game two against UAA. He had a four-game streak with four points. 
  • Hugo Marcil has made an immediate impact since jumping into the lines for the second half of the season. The rookie blue-liner has three points in six games, including an assist on Saturday in the win over UAA.

Ranked Opponents

  • Alaska has played one of the toughest schedules in the NCAA this season. 
  • As of Jan. 20, the Nanooks have played the fifth-hardest schedule in NCAA Division I. Previous competition this season are a combined 238-167-22 (.583).
  • LIU is the next Independent team with the 37th hardest schedule. Lindenwood ranks 46th, Stonehill ranks 52nd, and Alaska Anchorage ranks 54th. 

Let's Meet the Lions

  • Lindenwood comes to Fairbanks on a two-game winning streak. They defeated Stonehill twice to snap a three-game slide to Canisius and Minnesota Duluth x2. 
  • Giovanni Morneau leads the Lions with 25 points. He is one of two 20+ point scorers this season. Charles Savoie joins with 23 points. 
  • Morneau has a team-high nine goals and 16 assists. His goals match Jacob Fletcher's total for the team lead and his 16 assists is matched by Savoie's total. 
  • LU has seen a near-split in goal this season. Klayton Knapp has seen the most time, appearing in 13 games. He has a 5-7-0-0 record with a 4.24 GAA and .885 save percentage.
  • Liam Beerman has appeared in 10 games and has a 6-4-0-1 record with a .902 save percentage and 3.19 GAA. 
  • Lindenwood is under new control as Keith Fisher takes over for his first season as a head coach. 

What's Coming Up

  • Alaska is in week two of a three-week stretch at home. Next week they welcome LIU to town before nearly a full month away. 
  • Following LIU at home, the Nanooks will play UAA three-straight times to wrap up the regular season. 
  • Two weekends will be in Anchorage (Feb. 6-7, Feb. 20-21) before their finale in Fairbanks on Feb. 27-28.
  • 2025-26 will end Mar. 5-7 at the UCHC Tournament in St. Louis, Mo.

  • Alaska has taken home three Independent Monthly Honors this season. 
  • Lassi Lehti has a pair of Independent Goalie of the Month awards, bringing home the October honor and the Co-Goalie of the Month honor in November. 
  • Michael Citara was named the November Independent Player of the Month, his first monthly honor with the Blue and Gold.
