SERIES VS. ALASKA ANCHORAGE
- Alaska and Alaska Anchorage matched up for the first time in program history in 1979. UAA won 13-3 on Nov. 16, 1979. The following day was a 5-3 UAA win. The Seawolves won the first 16 meetings.
- Since 2022-23, the Nanooks lead the series 13-2-3, including a 10-game winning streak from Dec. 9, 2022 to Dec. 2, 2023.
- Four of the last eight matchups have gone to overtime with three of them resulting in official ties.
CUP ADVANTAGE
- The Nanooks have held on to the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup the past 14 years the series has been held.
- Alaska holds the second-longest streak of winning the cup, at five years (2001-06). UAA's longest winning streak with the cup is three, which they've accomplished twice.
- The last time UAA won three-straight cups was 2006-09. Since then, Fairbanks has housed the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.
LUCKY EIGHTS
- This season's Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup series will feature eight games, the most associated with the cup in history.
- The last three seasons have been best of six-game series'.
EVEN PLAYING FIELD
- Alaska Anchorage won two games in the series last season, claiming more than a game in the head-to-head for the first time since 2017-18.
- UAA will host four-straight home games against the Nanooks in mid-February (2/6-7, 2/20/21).
HOME AT LAST
- The Nanooks won't leave the great state of Alaska for the rest of the regular season.
- Their final dozen games are all in Fairbanks and Anchorage. Eight home games make up the final 12 with the other four coming at UAA in the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.
- They will battle at the United Collegiate Hockey Cup in St. Louis in March for their postseason.
MILANO CORTINA BOUND
- Colton Parayko, D, St. Louis Blues is headed to the 2026 Olympic Winter Games as a part of Team Canada.
- Parayko (2012-15) played in 104 games for the Nanooks and had 66 points. He was the captain in 2014-15 and earned a pair of AHCA West Second Team All-American honors (2013-14, 2014-15).
- The 2019 Stanley Cup champion also won the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off representing Canada adding to his silver medal at the 2017 IIHF World Championship (Germany/France).
BLOCK PARTY
TANDEM KEEPERS
- Lassi Lehti and Calvin Vachon keep the Nanooks in games as the duo has been the goalie of record in each game this year.
- Lehti leads the Nanooks with a .916 save percentage and 2.73 GAA. Vachon, a rookie, has an .886 save percentage and 3.57 GAA.
- Zak Brice saw his first NCAA minutes at Cornell last weekend and made five saves in 9:16.
POINT PER PLAYERS
- Alaska has a pair of players hovering around the point per game mark this season. Michael Citara sits just beneath the 1.00 ppg mark with 18 points in 19 games this season.
- His total leads the 'Nooks, and his eight goals scored and 10 assists also lead the Nanooks.
- Peyton Platter is right around the 0.75 ppg mark as the sophomore has 14 points through 19 games. Platter has a four-game point streak at the moment and has five points in his last four games.
- Alongside that, Platter has 11 points in his last 10 games.
RANKED OPPONENTS
- This is the first unranked opponent the Nanooks have seen since late-November at the Adirondack Winter Invitational.
- Since then, the Nanooks have traveled to RV Union, No. 16 Providence, and No. 12/14 Cornell.
- This season, Alaska has faced six opponents who currently sit in the top-20 in either poll and another four receiving votes.
LET'S MEET THE SEAWOLVES
- Alaska Anchorage comes into town this weekend on a nine-game slide.
- Their last win came on Nov. 18, 2025 at Bentley.
- UAA has a big upset victory under their belt this season, upending Denver at Denver on Halloween night. They took down the Pioneers 4-3 OT.
- UAA has fallen in overtime twice this season, also dropping an OT game to Stonehill on Dec. 6 (L, 4-3 OT).
- Karter McNarland leads the Seawolves with 10 points on nine assists and one goal. His assists total leads UAA.
- Joey Potter follows with nine points and a team-high four goals scored.
- The Seawolves block a lot of shots as a team. They have blocked 294 shots this season, good for 14th in the nation and first among Independent teams.
WHAT'S COMING UP
- Lindenwood returns to the Carlson Center for the first time since the 2022-23 season. The Lions visited Fairbanks on March 3-4; Alaska won both games (4-1, 8-0).
- Lindenwood defeated the 'Nooks in St. Louis last year for their first win against Alaska (2/15/25, 2-5). Alaska won the night before in OT (2/14/25, 2-1).
- Long Island University (LIU) makes their return to Fairbanks as well to end January. LIU has not played in the Carlson since the 2023-24 season.
- Alaska leads the all-time series 8-6-0 but LIU has taken the last two matchups.
PLAYERS OF THE MONTH
- Alaska has taken home three Independent Monthly Honors this season.
- Lassi Lehti has a pair of Independent Goalie of the Month awards, bringing home the October honor and the Co-Goalie of the Month honor in November.
- Michael Citara was named the November Independent Player of the Month, his first monthly award with the Blue and Gold.
