FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey team picked up an exhibition victory on Friday night over the UNLV Rebels. Alaska used two goals in the first and one in the second to run away with the 3-0 win.
How it Happened
Alaska picked up two early goals in the first period to solidify a 2-0 lead heading into the second.
Tommy Cronin tallied the first goal of the night for the Blue and Gold, finding the back of the net from Trent Penner and
Noah Barlage. Penner fired a shot on net, and off of a save and a battle out front, Barlage shuffled the puck to Cronin who had an empty net to work with and buried the goal.
Peyton Platter added the next goal 8:15 later, with just 1:15 remaining in the first period. After
Michael Citara found
Braden Birnie, Birnie found a slashing Platter as he entered the slot. Platter fired a quick wrister past UNLV netminder Doug Wakelyn making it 2-0 for the first intermission.
In the second,
Misha Danylov posted the final goal of the night, giving
Adam Cardona the assist. Cardona found a loose puck near the corner and found Danylov in front of the crease. After a nifty move, Danylov found the back of the net, taking the hit from a Rebel defender and beating Wakelyn for a 3-0 lead. The Nanooks had 50 shots-on-goal through the first 40 minutes, but their offense slowed down in the third as they posted only 15 SOG and went scoreless, coasting to the 3-0 victory.
