Sean Walsh Joins Nanooks Hockey Staff as Assistant Coach

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team and head coach Erik Largen have announced Sean Walsh as the newest assistant coach. Walsh is the third assistant coach to join the Nanooks this offseason for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

"Sean Walsh comes highly recommended with those whom he has worked with for his great hockey mind and relentless work ethic," said head coach Erik Largen. "He's one of the top young coaches out there, and his ability to connect with players and find talent is really going to help us on the recruiting trail." Walsh joins the Nanooks from Bowdoin College, where he served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past three seasons. During his tenure, the Polar Bears posted a 38–30–10 overall record, made NESCAC Tournament appearances in each year, won the 2022–23 NESCAC Conference Championship, and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament that same season.

Prior to his time at Bowdoin, Walsh was on staff at the University of New England for the 2021–22 season, helping lead the Nor'easters to a historic run to the NCAA Division III National Semifinals. From 2017 to 2021, he worked at the University of Maine as the video coordinator and statistical analyst for the men's hockey program.

"I'm honored and excited to join the Alaska Nanooks hockey program and be part of the proud tradition here in Fairbanks," said Sean Walsh after his hiring. "Coach Largen has built something really special, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of the program. I look forward to working with the great staff he's put together, getting to know the players, and helping push this team toward its goals on and off the ice."

Walsh brings a track record of success, development, and postseason experience to Fairbanks as the Nanooks continue building toward another competitive season at the Division I level.
