FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey program has announced the addition of defenseman Lucas Sorace. Sorace, an incoming freshman, hails from Port Moody, B.C. and spent four seasons with the Chilliwack Chiefs and one season with the Penticton Vees in the BCHL.

"Lucas is an athletic defenseman with good instincts and puck-moving ability," said head coach Erik Largen. "He brings energy and focus to everything he does and is committed to his development." Sorace stands at 6-1, 190 pounds and is a left-handed shot. The incoming freshman first joined Chilliwack in the BCHL in 2021-22. He skated in 35 games in year one and posted 14 points, all coming on assists. Year two saw him skate in 44 games and score 13 points on 11 assists and two goals. In his third BCHL season, Sorace appeared in five games for Chilliwack before playing the remainder of the season with Penticton. 

For Chilliwack in 2023-24, he skated in five games and posted three points on a goal and a pair of helpers. In 26 games with the Vees, he scored four points on a goal and three assists. He returned to the Chiefs for the 2024-25 season and posted career numbers. He appeared in 43 games, scored a career-high five goals, added 20 assists and finished with a career-best 25 points. 

In five seasons in the BCHL, Sorace skated in 154 career games, amassing 59 points on 50 assists and nine goals. He also skated in 60 career postseason games, scoring 21 points on 18 assists and three goals. 

He is the fourth incoming defenseman for the Nanooks and is the 13th announced newcomer this offseason. The final signings will be announced this week.
