Nanooks Travel to Missouri for Matchup with Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Nanooks hockey team is in Missouri for their first-ever road matchup at Lindenwood. The Lions welcome the Nanooks to the Centene Ice Center, the practice facility for the St. Louis Blue.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks claimed the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup on Feb. 8 against the UAA Seawolves. After losing a 3-1 lead in the third, the two sides skated to an official tie before Kyle Gaffney netted the only shootout goal to determine game six. Alaska claimed the cup 4-2 this season.

  • The Alaska Nanooks claimed the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup for the 14th-straight time with an NCAA tie and shootout win over Alaska Anchorage on Feb. 8 (3-3 OTT). Kyle Gaffney netted the lone shootout goal for the cup victory.
  • Matt Hubbarde is tied for 41st in the nation with 12 goals this season. He currently leads the Nanooks with 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists. He has scored a point in seven-straight games. He posted a goal in six-straight (nine goals in six games) before adding an assist on Feb. 8 vs. UAA.
  • He holds a 0.50 goals per game average, good for 27th in the nation and first among Independent skaters. He is fifth in the nation with one hat-trick this season (first among Independent skaters - tied with Anthony Lucarelli of LIU).
  • Kyle Gaffney is 73rd in the nation in faceoff wins with 216. This ranks third in Independent ranks. 
  • Broten Sabo has tallied four game-winning goals this season, that is 11th in NCAA Division I hockey. Five other Nanooks have one each.
  • Chase Dafoe has four power-play goals this season for Alaska, good for 43rd in the nation and fourth in Independent ranks. He also has one short-handed goal, the only one for the Nanooks this season, good for 23rd in the nation.
  • Kyle Gaffney follows with three power-play goals and Broten Sabo has two. Matt Hubbarde and Matt Koethe each have one.
  • The Nanooks are 18th in the nation in team penalty minutes per game (10.15).
  • When the Nanooks score first, they win. They are 7-2-2 when scoring first this season. In comparison, they are 2-9-4 when their opponents score first.
  • Alaska is 3-3-4 when outshooting their opponents and 5-7-1 when being outshot.

  • Colton Parayko (2012-15) was named to Team Canada for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off in Boston and Montreal. This will be the first 4 Nation's Face-Off roster appearance for the blueliner.

  • The Nanooks finished a weekend series with Minnesota in Minneapolis Thanksgiving weekend. It wrapped up 12 straight road games, the longest recorded streak in the program's 41 years in Division I. Fourteen flights, six bus rides, approximately 21,033 miles by air and 1,835 miles by bus.   • The six ties this season is the most by a Nanooks hockey team since the 2009-10 team that had nine ties.
Meet Lindenwood
  • The Lions will be looking for their second and third wins on home ice this season, with the only victory coming against Stonehill in November. In their last series, Jake Southgate scored a pair of goals, giving him five for the season, which ties him for second on the team. 
  • Lindenwood and Alaska match up for just the second time in program history and the first at Centene. The Nanooks took both games two seasons ago.
  • The Lions battled LIU in a two-game series in East Meadow, N.Y. Lindenwood dropped both game, falling 4-2 in game one, before falling in the second game 3-2.
What's to Come
The Nanooks will be on the road three-straight weeks to wrap up the 2024-25 season. They are in Lindenwood this weekend, will bus up to Augustana and then fly to LIU to end the year.
