Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of their eighth straight Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup win over their in-state rival, the University of Alaska Anchorage. In game one, the 'Nooks found themselves down 0-2 to the Seawolves in the second period. 14:17 into the middle period,
Colton Leiter found the back of the net, pulling within one to end the middle-20. To begin the third period, only 4:05 in, the Nanooks found the equalizer when
Tyler Cline grabbed his seventh goal of the season.
Only 3:32 later, the Nanooks found the game-winner in the hands of
Steven Jandric. The junior forward scored his first of the night and the first of his eventual hat-trick. It took him only four and a half minutes to complete the feat and bring Alaska all the way back for a big 5-2 win.
On night two, the Nanooks fell behind yet again, this time only 0-1 after Jared Nash of UAA found the first goal 1:19 into the second period.
Tyler Cline while on the power play tied things up quickly after, answering only 2:22 later. From that point on the Nanooks had the game in control. Midway through the second, the captain,
Kylar Hope grabbed the game-winning goal giving the 'Nooks a 2-1 lead.
Roberts Kalkis added another, extending their lead to 3-1, also grabbing his first career goal in the blue and gold.
Logan Coomes hopped into the scoring column on senior night, making it 4-1 while on the power play before Kalkis grabbed his second goal of the night.
Caleb Hite finished the night off, scoring his third goal of the season with only 27 seconds remaining in the game.
We Meet Again…
The Nanooks and Falcons are coming off of a series split three weeks ago in Fairbanks. It was an unorthodox split as they both grabbed extra points in the WCHA standings after tying. In game one, the 'Nooks came back from down 0-2 to tie things and eventually grab the second point with a
Kylar Hope goal in the 3v3 overtime period.
In the second game, the Nanooks came back again, this time from down three goals as they forced overtime again, however, this time they fell in a shootout that lasted three rounds.
Jandric Brothers
The Jandric brothers have both played key roles for the Nanooks in their latest success as Steven, the oldest of the two, leads the Nanooks with 32 points on the season, 30 of which came against WCHA opponents. On the other hand, Chris ended the regular-season with 20 points and a team-high nine power play assists. The two Jandric's also led the team in power play points, with 12 apiece.
Hope's Efficiency
Kylar Hope has been one of the most efficient Nanooks this season as in only 25 games, the captain has collected 18 points with 10 goals and eight assists. The senior forward missed time with an injury but despite the missed time, he hit double-digit goals on only 53 shots on goals. Hope will look for his 60
th career point this weekend in the opening round of the WCHA playoffs.
