@NanooksHockey Hosts Bemidji State this Weekend

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is back in town for their weekend series against Bemidji State Beavers on Nov. 1-2 at the Carlson Center. The Nanooks, 4-4-0, 3-1-0-0 WCHA, return home for the first time since their season-opener against Denver on Oct. 5-6.

Trick or Treat Night w/ the 'Nooks
Get to the Carlson Center early and be dressed for an evening of trick or treating! From doors opening at 6:00 p.m. AKT until the middle of the first period, kids will be able to trick or treat along the upper mezzanine.

Parent's Weekend
We'll be celebrating the Nanooks player's parents this weekend as many will be in the crowd. Before and during the game, we will introduce and thank the parents one-by-one.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is coming off of a series split in Anchorage with in-state rival, UAA. The Nanooks and Seawolves kicked off the 2019-20 #AKGovCup series with two games in the Seawolves Sports Complex on Oct. 25. The Alaska squad grabbed the first game win behind goals from Jr., F, Max Newton and Sr., D, Tristan Thompson, whose goals gave the Nanooks the 2-1 victory.
On Oct. 26, the Seawolves grabbed the game two victory, 0-4 behind three goals in the second period and the final goal coming in the third period.

Longtime No See, Fairbanks!
This is the Nanooks first game in Fairbanks since the Oct. 5-6 series against Denver. Since then, the Nanooks have gone to Houghton, Mich., University Park, Penn., and Anchorage, Alaska. Before their series split in Anchorage, the Nanooks grabbed a two-game sweep of Michigan Tech and then split with the then-#9/8 Penn State Nittany Lions.

Receiving Votes
The last two weeks have shown substantial growth in Alaskan hockey. For the first time in over five years, the Nanooks hockey team received votes in the USCHO/USA Today hockey polls. This week on Oct. 28, the Alaska team received one vote in the USCHO Poll.

Team Leaders
Through eight games, Max Newton finds himself atop the point's board for the Nanooks with five total points, 3 goals, 2 assists. Just behind him, tied for second, are Tristan Thompson and Chris Jandric, who both have two goals and two assists for four points.

All-Time Series
Bemidji State holds the edge on the Alaska Nanooks hockey team in the all-time series. Alaska trails 5-13-3 in games going all the way back to 1982 when the teams faced each other for the first time. The Nanooks won the last matchup on Jan. 12, 2019 at BSU, 2-1 in OT. Alaska also trails in matchups in Fairbanks, 2-5-1.

Scouting the Opponent – Bemidji State
The Bemidji State Beavers come to town for the first time since Nov. 3-4, 2017 when they split the two-game series with Alaska. Longtime BSU head coach, Tom Serratore enters his 19th season at the helm. He is the second winningest coach in Beaver hockey history. BSU is coming off of a 15-17-6 record in 2018-19 in which they finished 5th, falling in the first round of the WCHA playoffs to Lake Superior State.

The Beavers return three of their top four scoreres from a season ago, including Jr., F, Charlie Combs (11G, 11A, 22pts), Sr., F, Adam Brady (8G, 13A, 21pts) and finally Jr., F, Aaron Miller (11G, 9A, 20pts).
