FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team returns to action after a two-week break, hosting the Michigan Tech Huskies in a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Carlson Center this Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks return to action after a two week break after tying and defeating the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Nov. 11-12 at the Von Braun Center. The Nooks overcame a three-goal deficit in Nov. 11th's 3-3 tie against UAH to force their first double-overtime in the new Western Collegiate Hockey Association format. Junior forward
Tayler Munson scored in the 3-on-3 double OT to give the Nanooks the extra conference point.
In Nov. 12th's 3-1 win, Alaska scored two goals in the final five minutes of the second period to tie and take the lead from the Chargers, with freshman forward
Colton Leiter sealing the Nooks' victory with an empty-net goal.
WCHA Standings
The Nanooks now sit in eighth place in the conference standings with 11 points, registering a 4-7-1 overall record and a 3-4-1-1 record in conference play. Alaska will face Michigan Tech this weekend, which currently ranks second in the conference standings with 21 points. The MTU Huskies have a 7-6-3 overall record and a 6-2-2-1 record in WCHA play.
All-Time Series
The Nanooks trail 3-12-0 all-time against Michigan Tech, with the first game between the two schools coming as a 6-2 loss for the Nanooks on Nov. 9, 1990. The Nanooks are on a current eight-game losing streak to the Huskies, with their last win coming Feb. 15, 2014 (7-2) in Houghton. The Nooks are 1-4 at home against the Huskies.

Marcus Basara are currently tied for first on the team in goals (4), points (9), goals per games played (0.33), points per games played (0.75) and game-winning goals (1). Amongst all those categories, Basara individually leads the Nanooks in shots on goal (34) and shots on goal per games played (2.83), while Staley leads the team in power play assists (4), power play points (6) and goals per shots on goal (.235).
Don't Stop 'Til Ya Get Enough
A trio of Nooks recorded multi-point weekends against the Alabama Huntsville Chargers two weeks ago, as senior forward
Marcus Basara (one goal, one assist), sophomore forward
Chad Staley (one goal, one assist) and junior defenseman
Zach Frye (two assists) each collected two points on the weekend.
Rookie Contributions
Freshman forward
Troy Van Tetering leads all Alaska newcomers in points with six, tallying two goals and four assists in all 12 games played. Of the nine freshmen who have dressed in at least one game his season, eight have registered at least one point.
Scouting the Opponent – Michigan Tech Huskies
The MTU Huskies come to Fairbanks as part of their two-week road trip to Alaska, as they defeated and tied the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves last weekend. The Huskies won 3-2 on Friday, Nov. 18, before tying 1-1 on Saturday, but it was the Seawolves who scored in the shootout for the extra conference point.
Five Huskies currently lead MTU in scoring with 10 points each, with forward Joel L'Esperance leading in goals with five while freshman defenseman Mitch Reinke leads in assists with nine. Freshman goaltender Angus Redmond has played in nine of MTU's 16 games this season, posting a 6-1-1 record and collecting a 1.57 goals against average and a save percentage of .925.
