Nanooks Place Fourth and Eighth at the 2025 Bill Roe Classic

FERNDALE, Wash.
- The Nanooks cross country teams raced at the 2025 Bill Roe Classic at Hovander Park in Ferndale, Wash. The women's team finished fourth while the men's team finished eighth. 

The women's side raced first this morning. Alaska was led by Lucca Duke who finished in the top 10 with an eighth-place finish and a 6k time of 21:34.2, and earned the Nanooks eight points for her finish. Tabitha Williams was close behind for Alaska, finishing 18th in 22:00.9, good for 16 points. Teegan Silva was the next Nanooks racer to cross the finish line, taking 43rd in a time of 23:34.3 for 30 points. 

Alaska's final two scorers for the team scoring was Madison Schuh and Riga Grubis. Schuh led the two with a 50th-place finish and a finishing time of 24:02.8, earning 36 team points. Grubis followed right in Schuh's footsteps, taking 51st with a time of 24:07.1 and 37 points. Victoria Myers and Devyn Townsend were the final two racers for Alaska. Myers finished 70th in 25:42.5 and Townsend finished 73rd in 25:58.9. 

As a team, the Nanooks finished fourth with 127 points. Western Washington took first with 36 points, Simon Fraser took second with 53 points, and Central Washington took third with 91. Saint Martin's was the final GNAC team to participate in the women's race and took sixth with 142 points.

The men's race followed the women's race at 10 a.m. AKST. Freshman standout Dexter Delaney led the way for the men's team, finishing eighth and earning eight points for the men's team. He finished the 8k race in 24:24.3. Ian Baker followed in 25th to be the second scorer for the men's team. Baker finished in 25:00.2, earning 21 points. Blake Hanley and Finn Morley followed as the third and fourth scorers for the Nanooks; the two also finished side-by-side as Hanley took 65th and Morley took 66th. Hanley finished the 8k in 26:03.1 while Morley crossed the finish line in 26:04.2.

Nick Iverson was the final scoring racer for the Nanooks. The freshman took 72nd with a time of 26:14.2, earning 51 points for Alaska. Brady Benedict, Ned Peters, and Clem Taylor-Roth were the final Nanooks to cross the finish line. Benedict took 100th in 27:06.1, Peters took 111th in 27:55.1 and Taylor-Roth took 113th, finishing in 28:12.3. 

Alaska finished with 173 points, taking eighth in the men's 8k standings. Western Washington won the Bill Roe Classic with 36 points. Simon Fraser took fourth with 131 points, Central Washington took fifth with 140 points, and Saint Martin's took 10th with 244 points. 

Both the men's and women's teams are back in action on Oct. 11 at the Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Ill.
