FAIRBANKS - Alaska Nanooks athletics has announced the addition of Alyssa Woodberry as the department's newest assistant athletic trainer.

Woodberry joins the Nanooks through McKinley Orthopedic, Sports Medicine & Spine after completing her Master of Athletic Training degree at Oregon State University, where she gained extensive hands-on experience working with NCAA Division I student-athletes, high school programs, and large-scale sporting events.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with the University of Alaska Fairbanks' athletic department and student-athletes," Woodberry said. "I can't wait to be part of a team that's dedicated to providing quality healthcare while helping to elevate the health and performance of the student-athletes, both in and out of sport. I'm looking forward to this next adventure in Alaska!"

During her time at Oregon State, Woodberry completed clinical rotations with the Beavers' football, women's volleyball, women's track and field and men's wrestling programs. She also worked with Western Oregon football and several Oregon high schools, providing injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation and return-to-play care for student-athletes across a variety of sports.

Woodberry's experience extends beyond traditional athletic settings. She has served as a volunteer athletic trainer aide with Justin's Sportsmedicine and Northwest Rodeo Sports Medicine, providing medical coverage at some of the Pacific Northwest's premier rodeo events, including the Puyallup Rodeo, Ellensburg Rodeo, and St. Paul Rodeo. She has also assisted with numerous postseason and championship events, including NCAA Regionals and state championship competitions.

A native of Eatonville, Wash., Woodberry earned her bachelor's degree in Clinical Physiology from Central Washington University, where she also minored in Physical Rehabilitation Therapy and Anthropology. While at Oregon State, she served as secretary for the Graduate Student Athletic Training Club and was the recipient of the Northwest Athletic Trainers Association Bill Robertson Professional Scholarship. She was also a multiple-year recipient of the Folds of Honor Military Scholarship.

Woodberry will assist in providing comprehensive healthcare services for Alaska Nanooks student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols while working alongside the department's sports medicine staff.
