FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks Nordic skiing team has officially announced the hiring of Logan Mowry as their new assistant coach. Mowry returns to Fairbanks after having skied for the 'Nooks from 2018 to 2020.

"It's my honor to welcome Logan in making his return to Nanook Nation!" said head Nanooks ski coach Ben Buck. "His love for Fairbanks and UAF makes him an invaluable asset to a team that prides itself on its history and culture. His experience as a former competitor in the RMISA, as a coach of high-performing junior athletes in Montana and Idaho, and as a wildland firefighter have prepared him to take this next step in his coaching career, and I look forward to working together!"

From 2022 to 2024, Mowry worked as a head coach at Glacier Nordic Club in Whitefish, Mont., where he led day-to-day practices for high school athletes and created individualized training plans for each athlete. Most recently, he served as prep team coach for Grand Targhee Ski and Snowboard in Driggs, Idaho, from Oct. 2025 to April 2026. In addition to his time coaching, he also served as a crew member for Snake River Hotshots in Pocatello, Idaho.

As a student-athlete at Alaska, Mowry appeared in 13 races for the 'Nooks in 2018-19, beginning the year with a fifth and ninth-place finish in the sprint classic and 10k freestyle at the Nordic Cup. He picked up a 22nd-place finish in the 20k classic at that season's RMISA Championships, finishing his race in 56:26.7. The following season, Mowry skied in nine races for the Blue and Gold, recording a pair of 17th-place results in the 10k freestyle at the Colorado Invitational and 10k classic at the Denver Invitational, and would follow up his performance in the classic by placing 13th in the 10k freestyle pursuit. At the RMISA Championships, he added a 26th-place finish in the 10k freestyle. Mowry also ran cross-country while at Alaska.

"Getting to coach the Nanooks is an awesome responsibility that I don't take lightly," said Mowry on returning to the Nanooks. "It's a surreal moment coming back to coach a team that I've competed for in the past and I'm eager to make an impact."

Mowry is a Fairbanks native and graduated from UAF in 2021 with a degree in Business Administration. His first day as the Nanooks Nordic skiing assistant coach is August 10, 2026.
