The Nanooks traveled to Anchorage a week ago for the Seawolf Throwdown. A dozen Nanooks raced in the men's event, led by
Dexter Delaney's strong debut with a third-place 8k finish in 23:45.
Ian Baker (10th, 24:57) and Nicholas Iverson (11th, 24:58) followed, while
Blake Hanley (13th, 25:00) and
Finn Morley (15th, 25:24) rounded out Alaska's scorers in a 39-18 loss to UAA. Other finishers included
Ned Peters (19th, 26:10),
Sage Janes (20th, 26:24),
Brady Benedict (23rd, 26:42),
Clem Taylor-Roth (27th, 27:20),
Max Erickson (29th, 27:47),
Jaxon Freeman (31st, 28:44), and
Paxson Ott (32nd, 30:10).
The Nanooks fell to UAA 15-50, led by
Riga Grubis in 11th with a 24:18 finish. She was one of 10 Alaska runners in the women's race, which was won unattached by former Nanook
Rosie Fordham (20:47).
Rory Claussen (12th, 24:31),
Madison Schuh (13th, 25:37),
Anya Simard (14th, 25:51), and
Victoria Myers (15th, 26:02) rounded out the scoring.

- This is the final head-to-head showdown for the Nanooks and Seawolves.
- The men's team fell in the Blue/Gold Meet a year ago, 38-20, while the women's side grabbed a 19-37 victory.
- The Nanooks have a repeat schedule this season as a year ago. Following the Blue/Gold Meet, Alaska will head to Bellingham, Wash. for the Bill Roe Classic, hosted by Western Washington.
- Following WWU, they head to Romeoville, Ill. for the Lewis Crossover. Alaska had an impressive showing at the Lewis Crossover a year ago.
- Championship season begins Oct. 25 with the GNAC Cross Country Championships in Billings, Mont. On Nov. 8, the Nanooks will race at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships in Monmouth, Ore.
- Those who qualify will race one more time on Nov. 22 at the NCAA DII Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wis.
