Claussen ran at Eldorado High School in New Mexico. There she she was a sixth-place New Mexico Girls Cross Country 5A State finisher (19:50.23), and then a 12th-place finisher at the 2021 Championships (20:59.00). She graduated 12th in her high school class and was a National Merit Finalist.
