Newell finished 16th-place in 26:41.0 and set a new personal-best 6k time ... The following week she raced in the Blue & Gold Race in Fairbanks and finished 18th with a time of 27:46.0.

Newell ran at Juneau-Douglas High School. She was on the JDHS varsity cross country teams 2022 and 2023 before taking on a captain's role as a senior for the 2023 season.
