MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Nanooks cross country teams competed at the 2025 NCAA Division II West Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 8. Western Oregon played host to the 2025 West Championships with 28 women's teams competing in the 6k race and 23 men's teams racing in the 10k race.
Alaska's women's team finished the 2025 West Region Championships in 19th place with 494 points while the men's team finished 18th with 425 points.
The women's race was first, with a start time of 9 a.m. AKST at the Ash Creek Preserve.
Lucca Duke was the leader for the Nanooks in the women's 6k. Duke, coming off an All-Conference finish at the GNAC Championships, was looking for another honor this season. She would cross the finish line in 21:04.1, earning a new personal best time and adding an All-Region finish to her season accolades. Duke placed 14th to lead Alaska. Following right behind her was
Tabitha Williams. Williams also earned All-Region honors with a 22nd place finish and a time of 21:11.6. This was Williams' second All-Region finish after earning the honor last year.
Teegan Silva was the third scoring racer for the Nanooks women's team. Silva finished 148th in the Regional Championships with a time of 23:20.9.
Riga Grubis and
Rory Claussen were the final Nanooks racers to score points for the women's team. Grubis took 154th with a time of 23:25.8 and Claussen followed in 159th with a finishing time of 23:43.0.
Madison Schuh and
Jasmin Holst were the final racers for Alaska. Schuh took 161st, crossing the finish line in 23:50.1 and Holst took 181st with a time of 25:24.6. Bethany Mapes of Biola took first in the individual standings while Chico State won the West Regional Championship with a team score of 40. Western Washington was the top-finishing GNAC team in the women's race, taking third with 140 points.
The men's race followed the women's race at 10:15 a.m. AKST.
Dexter Delaney continued his historic freshman season for the Nanooks men's team. Not only did Delaney place in the top 10, but he also earned the first ever All-Region finish for the Nanooks since joining the GNAC in 2001. Delaney placed seventh, leading the Nanooks with a time of 29:45.5.
Ian Baker was the next Nanooks men's racer to cross the finish line. The freshman followed Delaney with a 61st place finish and time of 31:32.1 in the 10k race.
Finn Morley was the third finisher for the 'Nooks, placing 108th with a time of 32:57.7.
Nick Iverson and
Clem Taylor-Roth were the final two scoring Nanooks in the men's race. Iverson placed 119th and finished the Championships in 33:10.2 while Taylor-Roth placed 130th with a time of 33:28.0.
Blake Hanley and
Ned Peters were the final two racers for the Nanooks men's team. Hanley placed 135th with a time of 33:35.3 and Peters took 140th with a time of 33:45.7. Damian Garcia of Chico State won the men's regional championship. Chico State also won the team competition with a score of 75. Western Washington also led the GNAC teams in the men's standings, taking second with 88 points.
Head coach
Conrad Haber was proud of his team's efforts in Oregon this morning, "It was a fantastic day for both the men's and women's programs as both teams embodied what we are all about at the University of Alaska. The women put together their best collective performance of the season, successfully executing their respective plans and taking big shots throughout the race. The men capped off their transformational season by putting all the pieces together when it counted the most, resulting in each athlete having their best competition of the season."
