Last Time Out
The Nanooks return to action after two games at RV/No. 20 Union that saw them go 1-0-1. Union took a 3-0 lead into the third period of the opening contest despite Alaska outshooting the Garnett Chargers 14-12 over the opening 40 minutes. 10:19 into the third period, Anton Rubtsov got the Nanooks on the board, with Matt Koethe earning the primary and Luke LaMaster tallying the secondary assist. At the 4:46 mark, the Nanooks pulled Nicholas Grabko from net and played with the extra attacker. Rubtsov tallied his second goal of the night to make it 3-2 Union. With 2:01 remaining in the third, the Nanooks pulled Grabko again, and this time, it was Matt Rickard who stepped into a slap shot from the point and tied the game at thee with 20 seconds remaining. Matt Hubbarde earned the assist on the game-tying goal to send the game to overtime. In the extra period, the Nanooks put five shots on goal but came up empty, while Grabko saved both attempts from Union. The game officially ended in a 3-3 tie.
The Nanooks followed that up with three goals in the opening 10 minutes of the second game. In his first-career outing, Haden Kruse picked up point and goal number one at the 5:06 mark. Broten Sabo and Brendan Ross were awarded assists on the goal. Less than three minutes later, Koethe scored on the power play. Peyton Platter picked up the primary and Ross grabbed the secondary. Kruse found the back of the net again later in the period, forcing a change in net for Union. The 3-0 lead stood into the second period until Union scored on a power play 8:12 into the second. Braden Birnie got that goal back only three and a half minutes later to make it 4-1, with Koethe and Caelum Dick tallying assists. After another Union goal, Dick scored his first-career goal, making it 5-2. Platter earned his second point and Fyodor Nikolayenya picked up his first career point on an assist. Alaska's final goal came from Ross 14:43 into the middle stanza. Union added two more goals, one more in the second at 18:21 and another 1:30 into the third, but Alaska held on to win 6-4.
