Nanooks Skate to Exhibition Tie Versus Simon Fraser

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks hockey team welcomed the Simon Fraser Red Leafs to Fairbanks for an exhibition game Saturday night. The two sides skated to a 1-1 tie.

How it Happened
Simon Fraser hopped on the board first, tallying a power-play goal 18:04 into the first period. Lucas Ceccarelli scored first, making it 1-0 Red Leafs. The Nanooks quickly responded in the second period with Tommy Cronin scoring 4:31 into the middle stanza. 

William Lawson-Body started the sequence by finding Noah Barlage. Barlage then found Cronin with the cross ice pass and Cronin tied the game up at 1-1. Neither side picked up another goal through the third period or the overtime period, resulting in a tie. SFU won the shootout 2-1. 

Inside the Lines
  • Alaska went 0-6 on the power play. They went 5-6 on the penalty kill.
  • Calvin Vachon made 26 saves in the exhibition game tonight. 
  • Alaska commanded the faceoff circle, winning 34 of 60 faceoffs. 
  • William Lawson-Body won 10 of his 14 bouts. Rylen Roersma won 10 of 18. Dean Spak won eight of 13. 
  • Alaska blocked 13 shots tonight. Caelum Dick and William Fleet both blocked a pair.
What's to Come
The Nanooks are off until the Adirondack Winter Invitational the weekend after Thanksgiving. They will face Clarkson and St. Lawrence in Lake Placid, N.Y. on Nov. 28-29.
