Nanooks Rally for Tie at Nationally-Ranked Quinnipiac; Win Shootout on Danylov Goal

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Nanooks hockey team scored two third-period goals to force overtime and eventually tie at the No. 5-ranked team in the nation. The 2-2 OT/SOW at Quinnipiac (5-2-2, 0-0-0 ECAC) pushes the Nanooks to 2-8-1 on the season as they come home Saturday for an exhibition with Simon Fraser.

How it Happened
The Nanooks fell behind early after Quinnipiac opened the scoring 16:13 into the first period. Chris Pelosi netted the goal off a rebound that hit the post behind Alaska goaltender Lassi Lehti.

After a scoreless second period, Alaska found the equalizer midway through the third. At 10:08, Misha Danylov scored his first collegiate goal, making a pair of slick moves around Quinnipiac defenders before finishing on the backhand to tie it 1-1 with 9:52 remaining.

Less than four minutes later, the Bobcats regained the lead on the power play when Ethan Wyttenbach scored to make it 2-1 with 5:57 left in regulation.

The Nanooks answered once again. With 3:33 remaining, Alaska went on the power play following a Quinnipiac faceoff violation. Michael Citara fired a shot from inside the point, and after the initial save, Peyton Platter buried the rebound to the right of the Bobcat net, tying the game 2-2 with 1:50 left. The goal stood after a video review, sending the contest into a five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime.

Both teams registered one shot on goal in overtime, but neither found the winner, resulting in an official 2-2 tie. In the ensuing shootout, Alaska came out on top in the sixth round after Danylov netted the deciding goal. Chase Dafoe and Alexander Malinowski also scored in earlier rounds for the Nanooks.
