FAIRBANKS - The final newcomers for Alaska Nanooks hockey have been announced. Alaska will welcome a pair of transfer goaltenders in Pierce Charleson and William Hambley.
Pierce Charleson | Senior | G | Aurora, Ont. | Michigan State (NCAA)
Charleson joins the Nanooks after spending the previous three years with the Michigan State Spartans. While at MSU, Charleson saw time in 22 games. In his first season, 2020-21, the goalie played in seven games, posting a record of 0-3-0 while holding on to a .938 save percentage and GAA of 2.57. In year two, Charleson appeared in 12 games while going 3-8-0 in goal. He had a GAA of 3.65 and .904 save percentage. This past season he went 1-0-0 in three appearances. Before MSU he spent two seasons with the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL and went 78-12-2 in net with a GAA of 2.42 and save percentage of .901. In 2018-19 he was an AJHL (South) All-Star, AJHL Champion, earned the AJHL Top Team Goaltenders Award and was the RBC Cup Champion.Â
He is listed at 6'2", 194 lbs and catches left-handed. Charleson is excited to continue his academic and hockey career in Fairbanks because of the staff and culture, "I chose Alaska because of the awesome coaching staff and winning culture. William Hambley | Sophomore | G | Cole Harbour, N.S. | Western Michigan (NCAA)
Hambley is the second and final goalie to be announced in the Nanooks signing class. Hambley joins the 'Nooks after spending year one with the Western Michigan Broncos. He did not appear in a game for the Broncos in 2022-23. Before joining WMU, he played one year in the MJHL, playing for the Steinbach Pistons. There he played in 32 games, posting an incredible record of 28-2-1. He added a 1.96 GAA and .929 save percentage with six shutouts. In the postseason, he played in 11 games, going 6-4-0 with two shutouts, a 2.54 GAA and .915 save percentage. In 2021-22 he was the recipient of the best GAA and save percentage in the MJHL while also being named an MJHL Second Team All-Star selection.Â
Hambley is listed at 6'3", 190 lbs and is a left-handed catch. He understands what it takes to win in Alaska and is excited to join the 'Nooks, "I chose Alaska because the program is built on a culture grounded in hard-work and a must-win mentality. I could not be more excited to be a Nanook."Â

This duo of goalies rounds out the Nanooks incoming 2023-24 class.
