FAIRBANKS - Perry Michael has officially been named the Assistant Coach of the Nanooks women's basketball program. Head coach Amy Donovan announced the news on Tuesday, July 18.
"I'm so excited to add Perry Michael to our women's basketball staff!" Said Coach Donovan, "Throughout the hiring process, Perry set himself apart with his background, experience and his passion for the game. He's going to hit the ground running and I know he'll be a valuable addition to the Nanooks athletic department."
Michael joins the Nanooks coaching staff after spending the previous two years with Olney Central College (Olney, Illinois) as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach. There he assisted in player development through individualized skill workouts, designed and implemented weight training regimens, analyzed game film to design practice plans and helped organize team travel arrangements. He supported academic progress by organizing study tables and monitoring class cards resulting in a team GPA of 3.5 over his time, including a 3.74 in 2022-23, the highest in school history, while also implementing the program's first camps resulting in $6,400 raised from 35 participating schools. Before joining the Olney staff, Michael spent four years at Indiana University Kokomo as the Assistant Men's Basketball Coach. He would scout opponents film using Synergy to determine strengths and weaknesses while managing the team's daily operations including NAIA reporting, team activity scheduling and travel planning. He maintained player stats during games to track performance and managed team gear and equipment for proper supply and finally, he coached three River States Conference All-American players.
Michael has also made stops at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. as a Men's Basketball Team Manager where he would assist in equipment prep, camera operation during all home games. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy and will officially join the Nanooks August 1.

He graduated with his B.S. Hospitality and Tourism Management in May 2019 from Indiana University Kokomo before earning his M.S. Sport Management in May 2021 from Indiana State University.
The Nanooks women's basketball team is set to announce it's 2023-24 season schedule in the coming weeks.
