FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team has announced the signing of Ava Wiley ahead of the 2026-27 season. Wiley, a 5-3 guard out of Anaheim, Calif., joins the Nanooks from Buena Park High School in Buena Park, Calif.
"We're excited to welcome Ava to the Nanook family," said head coach Michael Ricks. "She has a strong work ethic and approaches the game the right way. Ava has a really good feel and is a terrific shooter with deep range and a quick release. Her ability to space the floor will make her a valuable addition to our program."
Wiley averaged 13 points per game on 45% shooting during her senior year at Buena Park. She knocked down 85 total threes on a 37% three-point percentage, setting the Golden Empire League record in made threes. She also averaged four assists and 1.5 steals per game en route to Golden Empire League MVP honors.
"This Cali kid loves new adventures, so I'll be taking my talents to Alaska!" said Wiley. "I'm super excited to announce my commitment to UAF! I want to thank Coach Ricks for believing in me and presenting me with this amazing opportunity! I'd also like to thank all of my past teammates and coaches, because without them none of this would be possible. I can't wait to start this new chapter in life, and also on the court! Thank you all!"
Wiley is Alaska's second signing for the 2026-27 season. Additional signings will follow throughout the coming months.
