TACOMA, Wash. - The Alaska Nanooks swim team wrapped-up the 2023 Logger Invitational at Puget Sound with a second-place finish, posting 650.5 points. Simon Fraser grabbed the win this weekend, finishing with 1110.5 points. The 'Nooks bested Whitworth by 70.5 points as the Pirates took third with 580 points. 

The first event of the final day was the 100-yard IM. Mesa Moran led the way for Alaska, finishing eighth-place in the A-Final with a time of 1:08.68 in the finals, setting a new lifetime-best; her previous best was 1:09.83. Next up was the 1650-yard freestyle. Tori Shoemaker finished the race in second-place, posting a new lifetime-best time in the event with a finals time of 17:38.46. This took nearly 13 seconds off her previous best time of 17:51.16. This mile time puts her first in the conference. Her teammate, Payton Wojciechowicz, followed in seventh-place with a time of 17:50.91 - that time places her third in the conference in the mile. Meah MaCallum and Kylee Carter took 13th and 16th, respectively, in the event and finished the race in 19:55.58 and 20:33.70. Carter's time set a new personal-best, taking nearly 10 seconds off from her previous best of 20:42.35. Adeline Berry posted a top-three finish in the 50-yard butterfly, finishing the race in 27.18, earning the Nanooks 16 points and improving upon her prelim time of 27.33. 

Charlotte Fletcher-Stables picked up a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a finals time of 2:03.84 - earning 20 points for the Nanooks. This time was nearly a second better than her prelim time of 2:04.61 and she now ranks second in the 200-yard backstroke in conference timing. She also picked up a win in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 57.31 for the win; Fletcher-Stables currently ranks second in the conference in the 100-yard backstroke. Lioi took 11th in the event, posting a time of 1:01.30.

Lioi led the way in the 100-yard freestyle, taking 12th-place with a finals time of 54.84, setting a new lifetime-best along the way, besting her previous best of 54.57. Kaidence Sampsel followed in 18th-place, finishing in 57.36, also setting a new lifetime-best, one of her four on day three. Dorka Dancsok grabbed a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a winning-time of 2:21.73 - good for second-best in the conference. Naomi Burgan followed in the A-Final, finishing in seventh with a finals time of 2:32.78, setting a new lifetime-best; her previous was 2:34.38. The 200-yard butterfly saw Berry, Moran and Sampsel set a trio of personal-bests. Berry took third in the A-Final, finishing in 2:14.27 (previous best - 2:29.72), Moran took seventh in the A-Final with a time of 2:18.48 (previous best - 2:18.93) and Sampsel took ninth with a 2:29.95, taking 16 seconds off of her previous best of 2:46.18. The final event was the 400-yard freestyle. Lioi, Fletcher-Stables, Berry and Dancsok took second-place, finishing with a time of 3:34.12. The second Alaska relay team finished in eighth-place with a time of 3:48.80. 

After this weekend, Dancsok is is ranked first in the PCSC in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 100-yard breaststroke, as well as second in the conference in the 200-yard breaststroke. 

"The Nanooks finished very strong on their last day with the highest number of events that they dropped time in." said head coach Ksenia Gromova, "I'm very proud of these ladies! A lot of them stepped up enormously. But overall, their success comes from their hard work, diligence, perseverance, and character that they demonstrated at this meet and throughout the whole season so far.  I'm very excited to see what the rest of the season can produce!"

Alaska is now off for the remainder of 2023 and will open 2024 on the road at San Diego State.
