FAIRBANKS – Dorka Dancsok and Cosima Schmiedel of the Alaska Nanooks swimming team garnered 2025-26 College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American accolades on Thursday. Dancsok earned First Team honors, while Schmiedel was named to the Second Team.
"Dorka and Cosima being selected for this award shows how much care they put into their work in the pool and in the classroom," said assistant swim coach Logan Indest. "I am glad they were able to represent UAF nationally for their excellence academically and athletically."
Last season, Dancsok became the first Nanook to compete in the NCAA Championships since Charlotte Fletcher-Stables did so in 2023-24, and the first Nanook All-American since Oda Bygdnes in 2018-19 after placing 16th in 400-yard IM. She set two program records in the 400-yard IM in 2025-26, posting a 4:24.90 at the UNLV Invite and a 4:23.31 at the PCSC Championships, the latter of which made her a conference champion. Dancsok also set the Patty Center Pool record in the event with a 4:28.39 in a dual meet vs. Simon Fraser. She recorded five top-five performances in program history and notched NCAA B-Cuts in the 400-yard IM, 200-yard IM, 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke.
Schmiedel had a season to remember in 2025-26, recording two program-record swims in the 200-yard butterfly, both set at the PCSC Championships, posting a 2:04.98 in the prelims and 2:04.35 in the finals of the event. The sophomore had six top-10 performances in Nanook history, notched an NCAA B-Cut in the 200-yard butterfly and was top-8 in 400-yard IM and 200-yard butterfly at PCSC Championships.
