Nanooks and Seawolves Prepare for Home-and-Home Weekend to End Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team has already secured the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup with their first four wins over UAA in December 2022. The two teams will face-off two more times this weekend with Friday's game coming in Anchorage and Saturday's game being played in Fairbanks.

TIME TO PARTY
It's time to party in Fairbanks as the 'Nooks will lift the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup for the 12th-straight time over UAA! Following Saturday's game in the Carlson Center, the Cup will make it's way to the ice. Stay for the presentation and celebration! 

LONG TIME NO SEE FAIRBANKS
It's been well over a month since the Nanooks were home at the Carlson Center. This is the first game on home-ice since Dec. 10, 2022, a 7-2 win over the UAA Seawolves in the second game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup. During their month away from home, the Nanooks were victorious in Anchorage on Dec. 16-17, 2022 with a pair of wins, 4-0 and 1-0. The four-game winning streak against UAA earned the 'Nooks the 2022-23 Cup victory. They stayed hot in game one at Notre Dame, grabbing a 3-2 victory over the Fighting Irish on Dec. 31, 2022. They then fell on night two. A week later, the Nanooks split with the #1/2 Denver Pioneers in Denver, Colo. for their first-ever win at Magness Arena. On Jan. 6, the 'Nooks used goals from Jonny Sorenson, Brady Risk and Garrett Pyke to knock-off the top-ranked Pioneers 3-1. They fell the next night 7-2.

PAPER AIRPLANE TOSS
The Alaska Airlines Paper Airplane Toss is back this Saturday! Just like the opening weekend of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup, fans will have a chance to win a pair of round-trip tickets to anywhere Alaska Air flies! 

MR. DECEMBER
Matt Radomsky will be in front of home fans for the first time since being named the Hockey Commissioners Association December Goalie of the Month. He earned the recognition after posting an impressive 5-0 record in the month. He combined that with a 1.04 GAA and a save percentage of .955. He ended the month with a 3-2 victory at Notre Dame after back-to-back shutouts at UAA. He posted 181.27 shutout minutes between the Dec. 10, 2022 game against UAA in Fairbanks and Jan. 1, 2023 game at Notre Dame. 

'NOOKS LEADERS
The Nanooks enter this weekend's home-and-home with six players in double-digit scoring. Jonny Sorenson leads the 'Nooks in both points and goals scored with seven goals and 14 total points. He's tallied seven assists in 22 games played. Following Sorenson is Payton Matsui with 12 points. Matsui is tied with Garrett Pyke for the most assists, each have nine. Pyke has 11 points on the season; two goals and nine assists, tying him with Chase Dubois. Dubois has 11 points on five goals and six assists. He scored the cup-clincher in Anchorage, making it a 1-0 final in game four, giving the 'Nooks the weekend sweep on the road. Brady Risk and Harrison Israels follow with 10 points each on six goals and four assists. Brady Risk has capitalized on the man-advantage all season, scoring four of his goals while on the power play, a team-high. He is also leading the team with three game-winning goals. 

Four Nanooks have 20+ blocks on the season with Arvils Bergmanis and A.J. Macaulay leading the way with 25 each. Markuss Komuls follows with 22 and Garrett Pyke has blocked 21 shots. Matt Radomsky has started all 22 games this season. In 1283:24 minutes in net he has allowed 44 goals for a 2.06 GAA on the season. He's made 469 saves for a save percentage of .914. He enters the weekend with an 11-9-2 record. 

MEET THE SEAWOLVES
Alaska Anchorage enters the home-and-home matchup with the Nanooks this weekend riding a two-game losing streak. They fell to Maine on Jan. 6-7 in Orono, 1-0 and 4-3 OT. This came a week after they traveled to UMass Lowell and swept the #13-ranked River Hawks 4-2 and 3-2 on Dec. 30-31, 2022. UAA enters the weekend with a 4-14 record. They are 1-3-0 on home ice and 3-11-0 on the road. Ben Almquist leads the Seawolves with 13 points on four goals and nine assists. Derek Hamelin is tied with him in the assists category, scoring all nine points on nine assists. Maximilion Helgeson and Connor Marritt join Almquist in double-digits with 10 points each. They've both scored four goals while assisting on six. Brett Bamber and Carson Kosobud are leading the Seawolves with 30 blocks each. They are two of four UAA players with 20+ blocks this season. 

In net the Seawolves have had three start in four or more games. Nolan Kent has started in eight games while appearing in 10. He's 2-6-0. Joey Lamoreaux has started in six while playing in seven and is 1-5-0 and finally, Jared Whale has played and started in four and is 1-3-0.
