IRVINE, Calif. – After day one of the PCSC Championships, the Alaska Nanook swim team finds themselves in seventh place, tallying 124 points. They find themselves ahead of Arizona Christian (107.5) and just behind Santa Cruz (138).

Day one consisted of five events for the women's swim team. Up first was the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Oda Bygdnes,
Shannon McCallum,
Lainey Lioi and
Whitney McArthur represented the Nanooks in the relay and placed sixth overall with a finals time of 1:40.83, improving on their seeding-time of 1:42.81. In the second event, the 500-yard freestyle,
Tori Shoemaker led the way for the Nanooks, placing 15
th overall with a finals time of 5:19.67.
Shannon McCallum finished next, grabbing a 26
th overall finish and a time of 5:29.57.
Taryn Aho was the final 'Nook to finish, placing 30
th overall, ending with a time of 5:33.40.Â

In the third event, the 200-yard IM,
Caroline McCormick was the leader for Alaska, finishing 21
st overall with a time of 2:18.89, improving on her seed time of 2:24.66. The only other Nanook to compete in the 200-yard IM was
Mesa Moran who placed 32
nd overall with a time of 2:27.03. She saw a one second improvement from her 2:28.28 seed time.Â

The fourth event was the 50-yard freestyle and saw
Whitney McArthur pick up the top spot for the Nanooks. She finished 17
th overall with a finals time of 25.12. Close behind was
Lainey Lioi. She placed 20
th overall and raced to a time of 25.32, improving on her seeding time by more than a second (26.58).
Erika Kakazu (27
th, 26.09),
Kyleigh McArthur (30
th, 26.54) and
Gabrielle Davy (41
st, 28.07) rounded out the 50-yard free for Alaska.Â

Alaska earned seventh place in the final event of the day, the 400-yard medley relay.

Lainey Lioi made up the relay squad and put up a time of 4:03.42, earning 46 team points.Â

The Nanooks are back in action for day two of the PCSC Championships on Thursday, Apr. 15 at 8:00 a.m. AKT. There will be seven events tomorrow, 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard IM, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 800-yard freestyle relay.
