DULUTH, Minn. – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is headed to Duluth to face-off with the #2/2 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.
Last Time Out
The Nanooks are coming off of being swept at home by Omaha. The #9/10 Mavericks dropped the Nanooks 5-2 and 4-2 on their home-ice. On night one,
Chase Dubois scored his first-career goal, giving assists to Filip Fornaa Svnesson and
Garrett Pyke. Soon after Dubois' goal, Fornaa Svensson scored his own, getting assists from
Brady Risk and Pyke. Four unanswered goal gave Omaha the win. On night two Pyke scored his first-career goal and
Didrik Henbrant found the back of the net, but the Nanooks fell behind 3-0 after one and could not manage the comeback.
Decades in the Making
This matchup has not been seen since 1988. The Bulldogs own a 4-0-0 record over the Nanooks.
Climb the Ranks
Filip Fornaa Svensson became the Nanooks' leading-scorer over the past weekend. The sophomore from Linkoping, Sweden now has seven points on two goals and five assists, including one goal and three assists. He tallied two points in both games against Omaha.
Power Play
The Nanooks improved on their power-play conversions over weekend. They entered the weekend with the third-worst power-play percentage in the nation before going 3/8 in the two games, including two conversions on night one. This raised their PP% to 12.2%.
1v1
The Nanooks have found solid success in the face-off circle. The blue and gold, as a team, have won 51% of the face offs on the season, 294-282.
Bodies on the Line
The Nanooks have tallied 114 blocks on the season. They have five in double-digits.
Filip Fornaa Svensson leads the way with 15,
Markuss Komuls has posted 13,
Roberts Kalkis has 12,
Garrett Pyke has 11 and
Antti Virtanen has posted 10.
Penalties
The Nanooks have found the box quite a bit through the first 10 games of the season. On average, they're heading to the box six times per game, including 16.4 minutes per game. On the season, they've been given four game misconducts. No opponents have been given a major penalty against Alaska and opponents are averaging 5.3 penalties per game for an average of 10.6 minutes per game.
NCHC on the Season
The Nanooks have only faced Omaha from the NCHC, however, that'll change with Duluth this weekend. The Bulldogs will be their second NCHC opponent on the year. Following UMD, the Nanooks will see Denver, completing their NCHC foes on the season.
