FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Last Friday, the Alaska Nanooks Department of Athletics announced they renewed their contract with KSUA 91.5 FM to broadcast all Alaska Nanooks hockey games for the 2019-20 season. Different from previous years, this year's broadcasting services will also include one court sport game a month.
Per usual, all Alaska Nanooks hockey games (home and away) will be called by Bruce Cech, who enters his 32
nd season as the voice of the Nanooks. Cech will travel with the team, providing on-air talent for the radio broadcast and KSUA's livestream over the internet. When the Nanooks are home at the Carlson Center, Cech's commentary will be the primary voice of the game, streamed on FloHockey.tv while also being available on the radio and station's livestream.
Dr. Keith Champagne, the Alaska Nanooks Athletic Director had this to say about Cech and what he brings to the Alaska hockey program, "We are excited to have the official and legendary voice of Nanook Hockey back for a historic season of hockey at the Carlson Center. It is no Nanook Hockey without Bruce!"
As mentioned earlier, KSUA will aim to bring more attention to court sports as well on campus and in the Nanooks athletic department. Court sports include; women's basketball, men's basketball and volleyball.
Kevin Swenson, the General Manager of KSUA 91.5 FM had this to say after signing on another year with the Nanooks, "KSUA is proud to work with the Alaska Athletic Department and to be the home of our Nanooks hockey team! We look forward to highlighting more UAF athletics this semester and empowering the voices of student athletes. At KSUA our mission has always been about the voice of the students on campus and working with Alaska athletics is just one more way we can bring attention to how awesome our student-athletes are."
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team will host their annual Blue vs. Gold game on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Patty Ice Arena at 7 p.m. AKT. This game will be available on KSUA 91.5 FM, their livestream online and video will be available on the Alaska Nanooks Portal.
