@NanooksHockey Welcomes ASU to Town for First Time

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is coming off of a series-split with the Bemidji State Beavers on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 and now welcome the Arizona State Sun Devils this weekend at the Carlson Center on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9. Both games are scheduled for a 7:07 p.m. AKT puck-drop.

Last Time Out
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is coming off a series split at home with Bemidji State. The Nanooks and Beavers first squared off at the Carlson Center on Nov. 1. The Beavers grabbed the first game win, 0-4 behind one goal in the first period, two goals in the second period, and the final goal coming in the third period.
On Nov. 2, the Nanooks grabbed the game two victory behind goals from Tristan Thompson, Justin Young, and Tyler Cline, whose goals gave the Nanooks the 3-1victory.
 
Home Sweet, Home!
This is the Nanooks second weekend in a row at home following their weekend split with Bemidji State. The Nanook will be away at Northern Michigan next weekend, then back at home the following weekend of Nov. 22 & 23 against Ferris State.
 
Heroes Weekend
Come celebrate the local heroes of the Fairbanks community this weekend. On Friday, Nov. 8 we will celebrate the Firefighters and EMT members in Fairbanks with a ceremonial puck-drop, special introductions and a special game day sponsor of Fire House Subs. Game two, on Nov. 9, will be the night in which we celebrate the Police men and women of the Fairbanks community. We will again have a ceremonial puck-drop with a special member of the FPD prior to the Nanooks and Sun Devils puck-drop at 7:07 p.m. AKT.
 
Receiving Votes
The Nanooks received three votes this weekend in the USCHO Poll. They received three votes. They did not receive any in the USA Today Poll, however, have been making noise amongst the voters the past few weeks.
 
Team Leaders
Through 10 games, Max Newton continues to lead the point's board for the Nanooks with seven total points, three goals, four assists. Behind him is Tristan Thompson with three goals and two assists for five points.
 
All-Time Series
Arizona State currently stands undefeated against the Nanooks. Alaska trails 0-3-0 in games going back to 2015 when the teams faced each other for the first time. The Sun Devils won the last matchup on Oct. 7, 2018 at ASU 5-0.
 
Scouting the Opponent - Arizona State
This will be the Arizona State Sun Devil's first time coming up to Fairbanks, as the first match up between the two teams was played at a neutral site in Anchorage. ASU head coach Greg Powers enters his 12th season on the Sun Devil's coaching staff and his 5th season as the head coach. He holds the title as the fastest start up program to qualify for the NCAA tournament in Division 1 history. ASU is coming off of a 21-12-1 record in 2018-19 in which they finished the season 10th in the Pairwise rankings.
