Carter Frankiw Signs with Nanooks Hockey for 2026-27

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks hockey program has announced the signing of Carter Frankiw, a defenseman out of Sherwood Park, Alta. The 6-0, 183-pound defenseman is a left-handed shot currently playing for the Chicago Steel.

"What impresses us most about Carter isn't just his play but how he goes about his work day in and day out," said head coach Erik Largen. "He's consistent, he's coachable, and he carries himself with the kind of professionalism that succeeds in college hockey. We are so excited to welcome him to our family!."

Frankiw will join the Nanooks for the 2026-27 season following this year with the Chicago Steel in the USHL. He made the jump from the BCHL to the USHL after 36 games with the Surrey Eagles in 2023-24. He appeared in five games to start 2024-25 with the Lake Cowichan Kraken in the VIJHL before playing four games with the Eagles again in the BCHL. In 40 games in the BCHL he tallied five goals and 10 assists for 15 total points. This season he is captaining the Steel. He has skated in 16 games and added three assists and 27 PIM.

Carter Frankiw becomes the first signing announced by the Nanooks for next year. Follow along as additional signings are announced throughout the season.
