West Valley Grad Aysha Peter Returns to Fairbanks to Join Nanooks Women's Basketball

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team has announced the addition of Aysha Peter. Peter, a Fairbanks native, returns home after two seasons at Bellevue College in the NWAC.

"Aysha is a proven scorer who has had tremendous success at the junior college level," said head coach Michael Ricks. "She puts a lot of pressure on defenses with her ability to shoot the ball, and she will bring valuable experience to our roster. Having a player of her caliber return home to Fairbanks is a tremendous addition for our program." Peter is a 5-9 shooting guard and was a West Valley High School graduate and during her time with WVHS she was the Mid-Alaska Conference MVP and produced 1000+ points in her high school career. She took her production to Bellevue College in Bellevue, Wash. and made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs.

As a freshman, she posted 13.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 39.7% from the floor and 32.9% from three. She was awarded the NWAC Freshman of the Year title as well as Second Team honors. In her sophomore season, she posted 11.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 41.7% from the floor and 31.5% from three. She had a strong final eight games for the Bulldogs, posting 17 points per game with a 43% three-point percentage closing out her career at Bellevue College. She was awarded NWAC First Team honors in her sophomore year.

"I am super excited to come back home and play in front of all my friends and family," said Aysha Peter after her signing. "I am just super grateful that the coaching staff has given me this opportunity."
