FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team has announced the addition of Oakley Homer for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Homer, a 5-9 shooting guard from Pocatello, Idaho, transfers to the Nanooks from Big Bend Community College.
"We're very excited to welcome Oakley to the Nanook family," said head coach
Michael Ricks. "She's already proven herself at the junior college level and brings great energy and competitiveness to the floor. Oakley is a capable scorer and shooter whose skill set fits our style of play very well, and we believe she can make a strong impact in our program." Homer played at Layton High School before joining Big Bend in the NWAC. During her high school career, she averaged 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 38% from the floor, 37% from three and 87% from the free-throw line.
She earned Region 1 First Team All-Region honors alongside 6A Honorable Mention honors in high school.
Homer became an immediate help for the Vikings at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Wash. In her first season, 2024-25, she appeared in 30 games and made 13 starts. She posted 9.4 points per game while shooting 33.7% from the floor, 30.4% from three, and 84.6% from the free-throw line. She added 2.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game, helping Big Bend to a 23-7, 12-2 NWAC record before falling to South Puget Sound Community College in the NWAC Tournament. In year two, Homer made 20 starts and played in 29 games for the Vikings. She averaged 11.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game as a sophomore. She improved her shooting totals, posting a 40.4% clip from the floor, 33.5% from three, and an 87.5% free-throw line percentage. She helped the Vikings go 27-4, 12-2 NWAC this past year before they fell in their second game against Clackamas in the NWAC Tournament.
"I committed here because off the bat I had a great relationship with the coaches and felt like they truly are trying to build a strong program and culture that I would fit well in," said Oakley Homer after her signing. "I believe the coaches and team here will help me become, not only a better basketball player, but a better person, and I'm excited for this new adventure!"
Additional women's basketball signings will be announced this week.
