FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball program has announced the signing of Makayla Figuereo. Figuereo, a 5-9 guard, hails from Lompoc, Calif. and joins the Nanooks from Lemoore Community College.
"We're excited to welcome Makayla to the Nanook family," said head coach
Michael Ricks. "She brings great length, versatility, and shooting ability to our program, and we believe she has tremendous upside in our system. We're excited to help her continue to grow and thrive here at Alaska Fairbanks." After stops at Cerro Coso and Feather River Community College, Figuereo found her way to Lemoore CC. There, she posted 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 36% from three. Her three was key in conference play as she shot an efficient 41% in conference games this past season.
Figuereo played at Lompoc High School and was an all-conference player in the Ocean League. To wrap up her career, she averaged 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, earning First Team All-Ocean League honors. Her team went on to win the CIF Central Section championship.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to continue my journey at the University of Alaska," said Figuereo after her signing. "I'm ready to work, grow, and compete."
Additional signings will be announced in the coming weeks.
