MIDWAY, Utah – The Nanooks Nordic skiing team kicked off the RMISA Championships on Friday morning, competing in a 7.5k classic interval start. They ended the day in fifth with 116 points, while Rosie Fordham notched a third-place result in her return from the Winter Olympics in Italy.
The men posted 54 points in their race, putting them in fifth among Nordic teams. Blake Hanley was their top finisher in the classic, skiing to a 13th-place result after crossing the line in 19:53.1. Matyas Pavek followed in 15th after posting a 19:59.5, and Cole Flowers finished his race in 20:10.2 to take 18th. Philipp Moosmayer was the final Nanook to notch a top-20 finish, placing 20th with a 20:10.5, just 0.3 seconds off teammate Flowers and 0.1 seconds off DU's Krystof Zatloukal in 19th. Josh Baurick (25th, 20:47.3), Gabriele Rigaudo (28th, 21:16.0) and P.J. Bragonier (32nd, 21:54.7) rounded things out on the men's side.
Rosie Fordham led the way in the women's race, crossing the line in 24:02.6 to secure her spot on the podium. She finished just 0.2 seconds off DU's Eve-Ondine Duchaufour in second place. Piper Sears was the next Nanook finisher, placing 20th after posting a 27:49.9, and Viktorie Kahounova (28:23.9) and Kolibri Drobish (28:49.4) took 22nd and 24th. The women finished with 62 points after the opening race, putting them fourth in the Nordic standings.
The Nanooks will conclude the RMISA Championships on Saturday morning with the 20k freestyle. The women's race is set to start at 7 a.m. AKST, while the men's race will follow at 8:30 a.m. AKST.
