MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – Cosima Schmiedel set the program record in the 200-yard butterfly at the PCSC Championships on Friday, posting a school-best 2:04.98 in the prelims before improving on that time in the finals and finishing in 2:04.35. McKenzie Fazio added a top-10 time in the 100-yard backstroke, while Dorka Dancsok hit an NCAA B Cut in the 100-yard breaststroke, and the Nanooks ended day three of the conference championships in fifth with 569 points.
The finals began with the 500-yard freestyle, where the Nanooks had three swimmers competing in the B-Final of the event. Ali Pecore led the way with a 9th-place finish, posting a time of 5:02.93, while Kitti Marton (5:08.47) and Mariia Sirotinskaia (5:17.34) followed in 11th and 16th. In the 100-yard backstroke, Fazio's 56.72 was good for fifth place and put her among the program's top-10 times in the event. Charisma Watkins was the other Nanook to compete in the event, posting a 57.86 in the C-Final to take 17th.
Dancsok tallied another NCAA B Cut during the 100-yard breaststroke, as she touched the wall in 1:03.96 and grabbed fifth place for the 'Nooks. Macy Ahrens followed with a 20th-place finish, swimming to a time of 1:08.80.
Schmiedel's program record 2:04.35 in the 200 butterfly was good for fourth place, and Giorgia Merlo's 2:10.94 in the C-Final of the event gave her a 17th-place result.
The 'Nooks ended the day with the 200-yard medley relay, where the team of Dancsok, Schmiedel, Merlo and Sirotinskaia placed ninth after completing their race in 1:50.80.
The Nanooks wrap up the PCSC Championships tomorrow at the ELAC Swim Stadium. Prelims start at 8:30 a.m. AKST, and finals are set for 4 p.m. AKST.
