Women’s Basketball Takes on Simon Fraser and Western Washington at Home

FAIRBANKS – The Nanooks women's basketball team welcomes Simon Fraser and Western Washington for two more home games this week, taking on SFU on Thursday evening and WWU on Saturday afternoon.

Elementary Night
Thursday's game vs. the Red Leafs is Alaska's Elementary Night, where all elementary students get in FREE with their families when they provide their school name at the ticket office. The first 300 fans to the game will receive a free Alaska Nanooks x Moda Health beanie!

Valentine's Game
Saturday's game vs. the Vikings is the Nanooks' Valentine's Game, and fans who purchase their tickets online will be eligible for a buy one, get one free deal. There will also be a Valentine's poster board competition, where UAF students can win a special "Will you be my Nanook?" gift basket. The gift basket includes limited-edition Nanooks swag and a Buckos Coffee gift card, and the winner will be chosen at halftime.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks welcomed Alaska Anchorage to the Patty Center last Saturday for their only game of the week. Despite a 30-point effort from Tamai Mancuso, the 'Nooks could not keep up with the Seawolves and fell 79-69. The Nanooks led 13-12 at the midway point of the first and were behind 26-23 after the opening 10 minutes, but were outscored 21-12 in the second quarter, and could not get themselves back into the game.

  • Tamai Mancuso leads the 'Nooks in scoring this season with an average of 14.2 points per game, ranking eighth in the GNAC. She is knocking down 2.1 three-pointers per game, which puts her fifth in the conference.
  • Pearle Green sits behind her with 1.7 threes per game, good for 10th in the GNAC. She is knocking down her shots from beyond the arc at a 32.6% clip, which leads the squad.
  • Genevieve Velasquez leads the Nanooks with 4.7 rebounds per game and has collected a team-high 22 steals this season.
  • Emily Freeman's 43 assists are the most by a Nanook in 2025-26.
  • Amelia Brady has been Alaska's primary rim protector, blocking a team-best 11 shots.

  • The Red Leafs have lost five straight coming into their game vs. the Nanooks, including a 77-71 loss to Northwest Nazarene last Thursday and an 84-76 overtime loss to No. 12 Central Washington last Saturday.
  • Junior guard Rachel Loukes leads the team with 15.7 points per game to put her sixth in the GNAC. She is also dishing an average of 3.2 assists per game, ranking eighth in the conference.
  • The Red Leafs are averaging 9.7 steals per game and 18.4 turnovers forced per game, both ranking third in the GNAC.


Western Washington Vikings (18-6, 10-3 GNAC)

  • The Vikings have won three straight and six of their last seven entering the week, highlighted by a 66-44 upset win over No. 12 Central Washington on Thursday, Feb. 5. They picked up another 66-44 win over Western Oregon on Saturday, Jan. 31, and an 82-54 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Feb. 7. 
  • WWU has two scorers in the GNAC's top-10 in points per game, with senior forward Olivia Hodges (16.3 ppg) and junior guard Libby Stump (14.2 ppg) ranking fourth and seventh in the conference. Hodges is Division II's second-leading rebounder, grabbing an average of 12.2 boards per game, and her 54.2% field goal percentage is second in the GNAC and 23rd in the nation. Meanwhile, Stump's 4.2 assists per game put her third in the GNAC.
  • The Vikings are holding opponents to a 34.7% field goal percentage, the lowest in the conference and 17th-lowest in DII. Their 11.6 rebound margin ranks ninth in the country.
