LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Alaska Nanooks Nordic skiing teams wrapped up the RMISA Invitational in Lake Placid today, taking part in the classic sprint races at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. The Nanooks finished the day in fifth place with 108 points across the men's and women's races, giving them 230 points over the invite to put them in fourth place.
Cole Flowers led the way for the men, making the quarterfinals after his seventh-best qualifying time of 2:58.17. He finished his quarterfinal heat in 2:57.79, giving him an eighth-place finish in the sprints. Josh Baurick (3:05.11), Gabriele Rigaudo (3:05.97) and Philipp Moosmayer (3:06.42) followed in 16th, 17th and 18th place, while Ben Dohlby crossed the line in 3:07.77 to take 20th. P.J. Bragonier skied to a 25th-place result after recording a time of 3:10.39, and Blake Hanley and Matyas Pavek registered 31st and 32nd-place finishes with times of 3:22.08 and 3:25.16, respectively.
The Nanook men placed fifth in the classic sprints with 56 points and finished the invite in fifth with 116 points.
Piper Sears was the Nanooks' highest finisher in the women's race, placing 11th after her 3:46.43 in the qualifier, while Rosie Fordham followed right behind her with a 3:49.43 to finish 12th. Kolibri Drobish skied to a 23rd-place finish with a 4:01.48, and Õnnela Rodendau (4:04.01) and Victoria Myers (4:32.30) took 25th and 28th, respectively.
The Nanook women took fifth in the classic sprints with 52 points and finished the invite in fourth place with 114 points.
Utah's Max Kluck and Erica Laven won the men's and women's classic sprints.
The Nanooks return to action on Jan. 24-25 at the Utah Invite in Midway, Utah. They compete in the 7.5k Freestyle Individual Start and 15k Classic Mass Start at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Trails.
