FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swimming team received an honorarium citation from the members of the Thirty-Fourth Alaska State Legislature prior to their Blue/Gold Intrasquad Meet last Friday for their selection as a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team.
The CSCAA announced the selection of 781 teams from 459 institutions as Scholar All-America Teams for the Fall 2024 semester on Feb. 4. These teams, comprising 19,209 student-athletes, were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. To earn this prestigious honor, teams were required to achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher during the Fall 2024 semester.
In addition to their academic achievements, the Nanooks also posted a successful season in the pool in 2024-25, finishing with a 4-2 record in dual meets while placing fifth at the PCSC Championships, their highest finish since the 2013-14 season. They hit nine NCAA B Standard times during the season, tripling their total of three from the season prior. Janci Pangburn, Dorka Dancsok, Tori Shoemaker and Charlotte Fletcher-Stables all recorded B-Cuts last season.
"The dedication and perseverance exhibited by the Alaska Nanooks Women's Swimming Team serve as a testament to their character and work ethic," the members of the State Legislature said in the honorarium citation. "Balancing the demanding responsibilities of student-athlete life requires determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to success. The team's achievements both in the classroom and in the pool reflect the remarkable leadership of their coaches and the athletes' ability to overcome challenges and reach new heights."
The Nanooks are set to take on Fresno Pacific in a pair of road dual meets on Oct. 3-4, officially kicking off their 2025-26 season.
