Jada Pleasant Announced as Newest Addition to Women’s Basketball Squad

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska women's basketball program has announced another signing in Jada Pleasant. Pleasant, a 5-7 guard from Beaumont, Texas, joins the 'Nooks after spending two years at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kan.

"We're excited to welcome Jada to the Nanook family," said head coach Michael Ricks. "She's a versatile guard with a winning mentality who was part of a national championship team during her time at Hutchinson Community College. Her ability to impact the game on both ends of the court and her championship experience will be a tremendous asset to our program."

Pleasant began her collegiate journey as a member of the 2023-24 NJCAA Division I National Champions, helping the Hutchinson Blue Dragons secure the trophy. She appeared in 33 games that season, averaging two points per game on 25.8% shooting. She also chipped in with 22 assists, 14 steals and six blocks while averaging a rebound per game. In her second season, she increased her scoring to 6.5 points per game, shooting 33.2% from the field and 27.6% from three-point range. She dished an average of 2.1 assists, grabbed 2.6 rebounds and tallied 1.4 steals per game. Pleasant reached double-digit points eight times during her sophomore campaign, posting a season-high 15 in an 84-57 win over Colby Community College on Jan. 29. During the game, she went 5-of-5 from downtown to account for all her 15 points.

"I'm beyond grateful to announce my commitment to UAF to continue my basketball journey," said Pleasant. "I'm excited for the opportunity to compete at the next level as well as grow on and off the court."

Pleasant is the fifth women's basketball signing announced this summer.
