FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball program has announced another addition in Ashlyn Waggoner out of Colony High School in Palmer, Alaska.
"We're excited to welcome Ashlyn to the Nanook family," said head coach Michael Ricks. "She's a versatile forward who finishes well, runs the floor hard, attacks the offensive glass and has great range on her shot. Coming from Colony High School, she knows how to win and will be a strong addition to our program."
Waggoner, a 5-11 forward, joins the Blue & Gold after averaging eight points, five rebounds and four assists with the Knights. During her senior year, she won the state championship alongside fellow Nanook signee Alycia Shelley, defeating Wasilla 44-41 in the championship game. Waggoner was also named to the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Senior All-Star Games.
"I'm so grateful for this amazing opportunity!" said Waggoner "If it wasn't for God pushing me out of my comfort zone, I wouldn't be here today. Thank you, Coach Ricks, for seeing something in me. Let's go Nanooks!"
Waggoner is the third Nanook signing to be announced. Further additions to the squad will continue to be announced in the coming weeks.
