Nanooks Men's Basketball Signs Deng Deng Out of Anchorage

The three-time Alaska state champion will rep the blue and gold next season after his time at East High.

FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball program has announced the signing of Deng Deng. Deng, a 6-5 forward, will join the 'Nooks from Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School.

"I could not be more thrilled to have Deng joining the Nanooks," said head coach Frank Ostanik. "Deng's athleticism, length, and footwork are extraordinary and unique. To add a player of his caliber to our program is a tremendous accomplishment. We are excited to help Deng realize his potential and become the player and man he is capable of becoming." Deng posted a strong career for the Thunderbirds, earning one All-State honor, a Cook Inlet Conference MVP, and was a three-time Alaska state champion.

This past season, in 26 games played, Deng was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game while shooting 61% from the floor. He added 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game as East won the 2025 ASAA March Madness Boys Basketball State Championships over Ketchikan, completing the three-peat.

"Any time you can get a player of Deng's ability who has been coached at the level he has by Coach Martin, it's a big deal. Deng's potential is through the roof, and his character and toughness align with who we want to be as a program. Deng is the fourth high school player we have signed from Alaska. All four are winners who love the game and love to compete. I hope the state of Alaska is as excited to watch these four players grow as I am."

Additional signees will be announced throughout the summer.
