FAIRBANKS - Alaska Nanooks men's basketball head coach Frank Ostanik has announced the addition of Terrell Peter to the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Peter returns to Fairbanks following two successful seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Washington State University, where he played an integral role in the Cougars' day-to-day operations, scouting, player development, and recruiting.
"I could not be happier to have Terrell join our staff," said head coach Frank Ostanik. "Adding a staff member from Fairbanks who already has a great deal of experience working at the collegiate level is a really big deal. Terrell has made a huge impact on the program just in the short amount of time he has been with us. Rarely do you find someone his age who is as committed, focused, and hard-working as Terrell. It's especially refreshing to find someone who has that skill set who loves Fairbanks."
During his time at Washington State, Peter assisted with all aspects of the men's basketball program, including coordinating team travel logistics, organizing team meals, and managing operational responsibilities. He also led the preparation of offensive scouting reports each season, analyzed opposing defensive personnel, and compiled advanced analytics from practices and games to help inform coaching decisions.
Peter was heavily involved in player development, helping mentor four All-West Coast Conference selections, including 2025 NBA Lottery pick Cedric Coward. He also assisted in the development of five players who advanced to professional basketball while contributing to the continued growth of several student-athletes who transferred to major Division I conferences, including the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, and Big 12.
In addition to his scouting responsibilities, Peter utilized Synergy Sports, Hudl, Sportscode, and FastScout to break down game and practice film, presenting detailed analysis to coaches and players throughout the season. He also participated in the recruiting process for every student-athlete on Washington State's roster.
"Terrell will be a tremendous resource for our program," added Ostanik. "As a young coach, he will have a unique ability to connect with our players while also being able to provide a great deal of help in the everyday responsibilities of our program, including recruiting, scheduling, player development, and the scouting of our opponents."
A native of Fairbanks and a West Valley High School graduate, Peter earned his bachelor's degree in Sport and Recreation Business from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2024 before continuing his education at Washington State, where he is completing a master's degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the 2023-24 Nanooks men's basketball team, making an appearance in four games.
