Nanooks Record Several Podium Finishes on Day Three of PCSC Championships

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - The Nanooks swimming team had several standout performances on day three of the PCSC Championships, earning five podium spots. The day was highlighted by a first-place finish by Charlotte Fletcher-Stables in the 100-yard backstroke.

The day began with the 500-yard freestyle, where Tori Shoemaker would record a team-high eighth-place result. She finished her race in 5:09.23 and earned the Nanooks 22 points. Naomi Burgan (5:10.74) and Peyton Wojciechowicz (5:11.11) followed with 12th and 13th-place finishes in the B-Final, while Ali Pecore (5:07.96) took 17th in the C-Final.

Up next was the highlight of the day for the 'Nooks, as Fletcher-Stables and Jordan O'Connor recorded a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The two Alaska swimmers locked out the top two spots with times of 55.59 and 55.79, picking up 32 and 28 points. This marks Fletcher-Stables' second straight victory in the 100 backstroke at the PCSC Championships, as she also took home the win last season. Both times rank in the top five in program history for the event, while O'Connor's was her best time with the Nanooks. Eva Markovic placed 20th in the event, finishing her race in 1:00.30.

The Nanooks followed that up with another impressive showing in the 100-yard breaststroke, as Dorka Dancsok took her spot on the podium with a second-place finish. She swam to a time of 1:04.02, which marks a personal best for the sophomore in the event. Her performance earned 28 points. Mayumi Schaetzle recorded a 23rd-place result with a 1:08.33.

Cosima Schmiedel continued the run of podiums for the Nanooks in the following event: the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 2:05.71 garnered a third-place result, marking a personal best and the third-best time in program history for the event. She snagged 27 points for the Nanooks. Adeline Berry followed in 20th place, finishing in 2:12.59.

The Nanooks concluded the day with the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the team of Fletcher-Stables, Dancsok, Schmiedel and Janci Pangburn swim to a third-place finish and earn 54 points. The relay team posted a 1:44.78, surpassing their previous best time of 1:45.10 recorded earlier this season.

The championships wrap up tomorrow with the fourth and final day of competition, beginning at 8:30 a.m. AKST.
