MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - The Nanooks swimming team ended the second day of competition at the PCSC Championships in fifth place with 432 points through 22 events.
The first event saw the Nanooks compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with the team of Ali Pecore, Jordan O'Connor, Sam Bristor and Janci Pangburn grabbing a second-place result and earning 56 points. Their time of 1:34.28 was the fastest for a Nanook relay team in the event since the 2008 season, beating their previous record of 1:34.68 set earlier this year. They finished 0.64 seconds off of first place.
Up next was the 100-yard butterfly, where Adeline Berry finished 17th in the C-Final of the event, posting a personal-best 58.31 to pick up nine points. She was the only Nanooks swimmer to race in the event.
Dorka Dancsok picked up Alaska's second second-place finish of the day, as her 4:25.99 put her top two in the 400-yard IM and earned 28 points. She nearly matched her personal best time in the event, coming 0.24 seconds shy of her top time set last season. Cosima Schmiedel placed 10th in the B-Final, finishing in 4:33.57 to secure 17 points. Naomi Burgan (4:37.86) and Charisma Watkins (4:43.34) were the other two Nanook swimmers to compete in the event, finishing 18th and 20th, respectively.
The Nanooks had three swimmers in the B-Final of the 200-yard freestyle, with Janci Pangburn leading the way with a ninth-place finish. She posted a personal best 1:53.42 and collected 20 points. Charlotte Fletcher-Stables placed 12th with a 1:55.26 and Pecore took 16th with a 1:57.98.
The final event of the day saw the Alaska relay team of Fletcher-Stables, Dancsok, Schmiedel and O'Connor place third in the 400-yard medley relay, earning 54 points. Their time of 3:47.11 ranks as the second-fastest time for the event in the program since 2008.
The Nanooks continue the PCSC Championships tomorrow for day three, starting at 8:30 a.m. AKT.
