MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - The Nanooks swimming team kicked off the 2025 PCSC Championships on Wednesday, finishing the day in fourth place with 210 points.
The Nanooks notched several personal-best times on the day, with Tori Shoemaker posting the third-best time in program history in the 1000-yard freestyle. She finished the final in 10:24.07, improving on her 10:31.40 seed time, to take third place in the event and record 27 points. That time was good for an NCAA B Cut.
Payton Wojciechowicz finished the 1000 freestyle in 10:39.31, good for an 11th-place finish, and Naomi Burgan followed behind her in 12th with a 10:40.48. Those two finishes notched the Nanooks 16 and 15 points, respectively. Finally, Kylee Carter placed 36th with a 12:07.04.
Dorka Dancsok led the way for Alaska in the 200-yard IM, finishing fourth with a 2:05.83 to earn 26 points. Cosima Schmiedel took 12th in the B-Final, swimming to a time of 2:09.09.
Up next was the 50-yard freestyle, which saw two top-10 times in program history for the event. Janci Pangburn finished in 23.74, taking fourth place and picking up 26 points while surpassing her previous personal-best time. Jordan O'Connor also cracked the top-10 Nanook times, posting a 23.81, which earned her a 9th-place finish in the B-Final of the event. Ali Pecore (24.47) and Sam Bristor (24.24) followed in 16th and 19th in the B and C-Finals, respectively.
The final event of the day was the 800-yard freestyle relay, where Pecore, Schmiedel, Bristor and Pangburn would place sixth, swimming to a 7:44.92, which ranks fifth all-time in the program record books for the event.
The Nanooks are back in the pool tomorrow for day two of the PCSC Championships, starting at 8:30 a.m. AKT.
