HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Nanooks swimming team fell to the University of Hawaii 139-65 on Friday evening, moving to 4-3 in duals this season.
The 'Nooks began the meet by taking second in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel, Giorgia Merlo and McKenzie Fazio completing their race in 1:49.21. Alaska's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Mariia Sirotinskaia, Kitti Marton, Schmiedel and Fazio gave the Nanooks another second-place result with a 7:56.83.
Fazio recorded her first of two third-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a 24.67 to lead the way for the 'Nooks in the event. She also took third in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 1:00.03.
Dancsok notched a pair of individual second-place results during the meet, taking second in the 200-yard IM with a 2:07.60 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:23.64.
Merlo and Schmiedel logged third-place results in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard butterfly, respectively, completing their races in 2:13.66 and 59.10. Macy Ahrens was Alaska's highest finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing second with a 1:08.59, and Charisma Watkins took second in the 200-yard backstroke after finishing in 2:15.39.
Marton paced the team in the 100 and 500-yard freestyle, coming in fourth in the 100 with a 56.84 before claiming second in the 500 with a 5:17.26.
The Nanooks wrapped things up with the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the team of Fazio, Sirotinskaia, Dancsok and Merlo secured second place with a 1:41.89.
The 'Nooks return to action next week with their final home meets of the season. They take on Westmont on Friday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Patty Center Pool.
