Nanooks Take on Vikings, Red Leafs This Week at Home

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks women's basketball team is in Fairbanks for two contests this week, taking on the Western Washington Vikings on Thursday evening and the Simon Fraser Red Leafs on Saturday at noon.

Last Time Out
The Nanooks dropped their one game last week, falling to Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Jan. 11, by a final of 36-72.

Destiny Reimers posted a team-high 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting. She also notched team highs with nine rebounds and three blocks. Jayda Van Dyke finished with seven points, going 3-of-5 from the floor. Taylor Pilot led the team with three assists and three steals while grabbing six rebounds. Amelia Brady finished with five points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal. The Nanooks shot 26% from the floor and 18.2% from three and were outrebounded 52-40.

  • Alaska's top scorer this season is Destiny Reimers, whose 12.8 points per game paces the squad. She is also its top rebounder, grabbing an average of 6.08 boards per game.

The Vikings currently sit in third place in the GNAC standings, winning four of their first six conference games. Since the start of the new year, they have gone 3-1, picking up wins vs. Western Oregon (63-30), Saint Martin's (63-50) and Central Washington (67-65). Their loss came in a 51-63 defeat vs. Northwest Nazarene last Thursday.

They are led by Olivia Wikstrom, who is averaging 14.7 points per game, good for seventh-best in the GNAC. She is also one of the top rebounders in the conference, grabbing the second-most boards per game at 8.2.

Head coach Carmen Dolfo picked up her 700th career win in WWU's last game against Central Washington, earning a come-from-behind 67-65 victory over the Wildcats last Saturday.

The Red Leafs are coming into the week off three-straight losses, falling to Western Oregon (64-67), Central Washington (70-82) and Northwest Nazarene (55-81). They have picked up GNAC wins vs. Seattle Pacific (87-73) and Saint Martin's (57-55).

They are led by Sophia Wisotzki, currently the GNAC leader in points per game with 23.5. That mark is fourth-best in DII. The senior guard sits eighth in the GNAC in three-pointers per game, posting an average of 2.2 conversions from beyond the arc.

Simon Fraser ranks second in the GNAC in steals per game (11.7), turnover margin (6.53), turnovers forced per game (22.8) and offensive rebounds per game (13.9).
