FAIRBANKS - Head coach Frank Ostanik and the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball program have announced the signing of Jeremiah (Shish) Hersrud. Hersrud, a guard out of Wasilla, Alaska, signs with the Nanooks after spending the past two years at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Wash.

The Bellevue Bulldogs are a member of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).

"Shish is someone I was very excited to have join our program," said Coach Ostanik on the recent signing. "I have coached against Shish's teams at Colony. He played with a lot of great players, but anyone who watched those Colony teams play knows Shish made them go. Shish is an exceptional court leader, someone who is capable of controlling the game and making everyone around him better. I am also ecstatic to have an Alaskan player out of Colony High School, which is a program known for its execution, toughness and discipline."

Hersrud played at Colony High School in Palmer, Alaska, where he earned First, Second and Third Team honors for 4A Alaska Boys Basketball. After taking his talents to Bellevue in 2022, Hersrud broke out during the 2023-24 season, playing in and starting 28 games for the Bulldogs. He averaged 31.1 minutes and 9.8 points per game, shooting 41.8% from the field, 32.4% from three and 79.5% from the line. He served as a primary creator for the Bulldogs, as his three assists per game tied him for the team lead, while his 1.6 assist/turnover ratio paced the squad. He also chipped in with 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Hersrud posted 12 games of 10+ points during the season, including two contests of 20+ points. He notched 20 points with two assists and three steals in a 74-64 win over Highline, going 7-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 from deep. Two games later, in a matchup against fellow NWAC school Olympic, the guard scored a season-high 26 points to go along with four rebounds and five assists in a 96-82 victory over the Rangers. Hersrud matched his season-highs in field goals and three points made with seven and four, respectively, while going 8-for-8 from the line. In conference play, Hersrud dished out a team-leading 3.2 assists per game and a 2.1 assists/turnover ratio. He also finished second on the team in three-point shooting in NWAC play, shooting at a 36% clip from beyond the arc.

"I feel extremely blessed to get an opportunity to represent Alaska and the Nanooks!" said Hersrud on his recent commitment.

Additional men's basketball signees and newcomers will be announced throughout the summer.
