FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball program has announced another signing for the 2024-25 season in 6-7 guard Jackson Krug. Krug spent the previous two seasons at Lassen Community College in Susanville, Calif. as a member of the Cougars men's basketball team.
"Jackson will provide much needed size and depth to our roster," said head coach Frank Ostanik on the new addition to the Alaska Nanooks. "While we have added some very talented pieces to our team, we have not had the luxury of adding much size. At 6'7", Jackson is versatile and capable of playing on the perimeter and around the rim. There is also a unique toughness to Jackson that I believe will be impactful to our program. Anytime you can add a player from Alaska with his size, skill and versatility, it's a huge day. I'm excited to see Jackson grow and develop as a Nanook and compete for time on the court."
During his first season with the Cougars in 2022-23, Krug appeared in 24 contests and made five starts. He finished his freshman season shooting 38.5% from the field and 27.3% from three. The guard grabbed 2.1 rebounds per game while tallying seven assists and forcing 12 turnovers. Krug continued to improve in his sophomore campaign, making 28 appearances and 14 starts for Lassen in 2023-24. His field goal percentage jumped to 43.5% and he shot 29.3% from beyond the arc. He finished the season scoring 5.8 points and grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game. Krug proved capable of playing on both ends of the court, notching 23 steals and five blocks for a total of 28 forced turnovers for the Cougars. He posted 10+ points in four outings, scoring 10 and 11 in consecutive games against Columbia College (CA) and West Hills College Coalinga, respectively. His 11 points and 12 rebounds against West Hills College Coalinga gave him his first collegiate double-double. Krug's season-high in points came in an 86-72 win over Shasta when he notched 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out two assists and swiping three steals. His performances throughout his second season with the Cougars garnered All-Defensive Team honors. He was also recognized on the All-Academic team while at Lassen.
Prior to his time with the Cougars, Krug attended Kodiak High School in Kodiak, Alaska. At Kodiak, he earned a spot on the All-State basketball team and became a state champion in swimming.
"I'm super excited to play under great coaches and play for the University of Alaska Fairbanks," Krug said on joining the Nanooks. "I'm super pumped to get after it!"
Additional men's basketball signees and newcomers will be announced throughout the summer.
