GENEVA, Ohio - Fifth-year Charlotte Fletcher-Stables closed-out the Alaska Nanooks swim team's 2023-24 season on Friday morning, competing in the 100-yard backstroke event at the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Fletcher-Stables, the lone qualifier from the Alaska Nanooks swim team this season, placed 29th-overall in Friday morning's prelims with a total time of 56.40. This was her NCAA National Championships debut. "The race did not go the way we planned." said head coach Ksenia Gromova, "Charlotte slipped on the start which put her way behind immediately. She tried catching up but it wasn't enough to make it to the finals." 

Her time of 56.40 put her 1.33 seconds behind the 16th-place finisher and last finals qualifying position (55.22). The top time in the prelims came from Agata Naskret of Colorado Mesa; she posted a 52.80.

"It's hard to have a good 10 with an unsuccessful start. We're not sure what happened, we practiced starts and turns at the competition pool for three days including today. We have discussed what we learned from this experience and now we are going to focus on getting better and stronger for next year. I will do my best to qualify more swimmers in more events. Being the only swimmer traveling and swimming, and in only one event, is a lot of pressure." added Coach Gromova.

Alongside being the only Nanook in the event, she was the only PCSC representative in the 100-yard backstroke.
